Launch of Trees for Sacred Spaces
The Conservation Foundation’s tree planting programme for London’s Churches supported by the Mayor of London
Date: Thursday 16 February 2017
Time: 8.30am – 9.00am
Venue: In front of Church House, Dean’s Yard, Westminster SW1P 3NZ
What: The Bishops of London, Southwark and Chelmsford will be presented with the first 20 trees in the Trees for Sacred Spaces project by Shirley Rodrigues, London’s Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy. The project falls in these three dioceses and part of the Diocese of Rochester.
The Bishops will be joined by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Church of England’s Lead Bishop for the Environment. The Bishop of London, The Rt Revd Richard Chartres, will bless the trees.
Trees for Sacred Spaces: The Conservation Foundation’s Trees for Sacred Spaces project is enabling churches in the London, Southwark, Chelmsford and Rochester dioceses to plant trees that support bees and other pollinators as part of the Mayor’s ambition to make London one of the greenest cities in the world.
The tree plantings will also offer an opportunity for churches to organise events and ceremonies that involve members of other faiths in their parishes to celebrate and help to enhance the environments that people of all faiths and no faith share. www.conservationfoundation.co.uk/trees/
