Shaun Keaney has been recognised as a Hidden Hero by hotel charity Room to Reward for his dedication and commitment to his role as a support worker at Warwickshire Mencap. Regional Operations Manager Richard Ellis commented: “Shaun plays a huge part in Mencap's conversations and gives his feedback and will challenge where necessary. He plays a valuable part in Mencap's big plan and values. He is a real asset to the team and produces endless excellent work with and for the people we support.”
The first charity initiative of its kind, hotels donate their unsold rooms, via the Room to Reward scheme, providing nominated community ‘Hidden Heroes’ a complimentary two-night break, whilst giving charities the means to motivate, thank and contribute to the well-being of their invaluable volunteers and staff.
Shaun plays a huge part in Mencap's running and was deemed a real asset to the team, producing endless excellent work with and for the people they support. Shaun said "I am overwhelmed by this reward and it's nice to know that the support I give to the people we support is noticed by management and I really appreciate being nominated, let alone receiving the reward. I didn't realise how much the little things that I do with people we support, impact on their lives."
Adam Terpening, Charity Director of Room to Reward commented:
“The power of a thank you is untold. Our scheme is a simple one but the impact it has on the charity sector is significant, we feel honoured to be able to recognise those who make such a difference to the lives of others.”
‘Room to Reward’ work with many registered charities, including ‘Mencap’, ‘Macmillan Caring’, ‘National Autistic Society’, ‘Maggie’s Cancer Centres’, ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’ and ‘Wales Air Ambulance’, the programme is supporting charities to give something back to key individuals, who make such a difference to the lives of others.

Notes for Editors
Mencap is a national charity supporting those with learning disabilities. Their vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.
The services they provide range from round-the-clock care to helping someone join in with local leisure activities, providing advice and information on things like employment and education, helping someone to live independently for the first time, and even things like reporting a crime to the police.
