Society Café, the little sister venture to one of Bath's most popular coffee spots, is a new addition to the city centre. Owners Jane and Adrian Campbell-Howard have boldly taken on the high street's big name coffee shops and are keen to prove that you don't need to go off the beaten track to find a quality cup.
'At Society luxury coffee doesn't cost more or take longer and people are beginning to see that high quality does not mean a higher price,' says owner, Adrian Campbell-Howard. 'It's so exciting to introduce everyone to the level of coffee that we believe they should expect! We feel pretty honoured to be part of people's coffee journey of discovery!'
Choosing the coffee roast is a real team effort here and the baristas often gather together for cupping sessions with their local roastery, Round Hill. There are always two beans on offer for espresso based drinks along with two speciality roasts for filter plus a bottled cold brew (which takes 8 hours to drip through their Korean Ridge Brewer!).
Milk comes from the local Ivy House farm where the organic jersey herd produce the finest, sweetest milk in the land - taste before you add sugar! Also on offer is hot chocolate, made from Willie Harcourt-Cooze's Peruvian chocolate drops, a large selection of loose leaf tea and soft drinks.
Grab a homemade sandwich, made on site, or indulge in your sweet tooth from the tempting array of cakes and pastries on offer. There is a big selection of gluten free treats on offer with a decadent chocolate brownie and slightly salted caramel shortbread along with pastries, made daily, by Richard Bertinet.
If you can linger, bagsy one of the window seats and enjoy some fantastic people watching in the shadow of Bath Abbey. The space itself is pretty inspiring - Society has just been singled out by Red Magazine as one of the top-designed cafés in the world!
With clear tasting notes for each coffee and friendly informed Baristas serious about creating the perfect cup to suit each customer, Society is guiding anyone and everyone to find their own coffee paradise.
