SHEFFIELD TALENT (featuring Eliot Kennedy) COLLABORATE TO RAISE MONEY FOR REFUGEES IN THE UK
Sailing On Tears: Release date: 11th December, 2020.
Sailing On Tears is a creative response to the global refugee crisis. The aims of the project are to raise money for Refugee Action in the UK and to raise awareness of the plight of refugees around the world.
Songwriter, Nadia Durrani-Jones blends compassionate lyrics with stirring orchestral music to make Sailing On Tears a song which emotionally engages the listener. The collective of Sheffield-based musicians featuring on the track are diverse in style, age and background; each artist delivers a vocal performance in their unique style- from haunting and delicate to powerful and operatic. The vocalists showcased in the track include prolific songwriter/producer/vocalist Eliot Kennedy (collaborator with Take That, Spice Girls, Boyzone, Aretha Franklin, to name a few, and part of the X-factor talent development team) and well-respected house music singer-songwriter Steve Edwards (with several hit singles, including The Sound of Violence, Watch the Sunrise and Thru the Night). Other vocalists lending their talent to Sailing On Tears include Lindsay Dracass (former Eurovision entrant for the UK) and KB (emerging, contemporary R&B singer).
The track is produced by Aidan Thompson (Alvarez Kings) of Steelworks Studios, Sheffield. The song was recorded adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines, with the artists coming in separately to sing their parts. Thompson has worked the editing and structuring of the track to provide the listener with the holistic experience that would have been obtained pre-pandemic.
Durrani-Jones has teamed up with Refugee Action, a nationwide charity which support refugees and asylum seekers and is also working with City of Sanctuary, Sheffield to channel all of the proceeds from Sailing On Tears directly to those most in need.
Accompanying the track is a music video which cuts shots of the vocalists recording in Steelworks Studio with thought-provoking motion images depicting the struggle faced by displaced people.
In addition to her passion for music, Durrani-Jones is a secondary school teacher and has created a virtual assembly, complete with original soundtrack, to inform students about refugees and asylum seekers and how they can help raise funds to support those in the UK.
Sailing On Tears will be available to download/stream on all major sites from midnight on 11.12.20. A limited-edition CD is also available via the website, featuring a bonus acoustic track (Feel Without Your Skin), by the same songwriter.
