Local legend, ‘Roller Roy’ Payton, probably the country’s oldest rollerblading ukulele player with a parrot on his shoulder, is teaming up with the Theodora Children’s Charity to promote legacy giving on the first day of Remember a Charity Week.
The charity sends professional performers, called Giggle Doctors, to improve children’s experience of hospital; increasing opportunities for play and reducing distress and anxiety. More than 30,000 children benefit each year, including the young patients at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. Leaving a gift to the charity in your will is the perfect way to make sure the laughter continues for generations to come.
Remember a Charity Week takes place from the 12th September and helps to raise awareness of the importance of legacy giving. This year is all about passing on something legendary. From words of wisdom to leaving a gift to your favourite charity in your Will, we all have something legendary that we can pass on.
‘Roller Roy’ is no stranger to doing incredible things for the charities he holds dear to his heart. After learning to skate at the age of 78, Roy uses his inspiring energy to raise money for charity, all in loving memory of his daughter, Deborah, who sadly passed away from childhood leukaemia aged just one year old. He has raised £8,000 for various charities so far and is set to push the amount higher with an exciting event in October. Roy’s next skate-a-thon will be taking place at 10:30am on October 16th, at the RNLI Museum on Eastbourne seafront.
“I believe that age is just a number and it is never too late to do something legendary for charity. I’m so pleased to be working with the Theodora Children’s Charity, helping to raise money for sick and disabled children. You can support the charity too by leaving a legacy in your will and letting the laughter live on!”
If you want to be a legend just like Roy, but you’re not quite ready to throw on your skates and take on the Eastbourne seafront, consider leaving a gift in your will and let your legend live on.
