Tennis in Yorkshire set for success as £630,000 initiative is launched

ADVANTAGE YORKSHIRE will provide grants to clubs and venues in Yorkshire amounting to £100,000 annually, and up to £5,000 per club on a £ for £ matching basis, for projects that include coach development, links between schools and clubs and minor facility improvements. We expect this initiative to be extremely popular as it will accelerate the attraction of more young players into the game.

Other elements of the ADVANTAGE YORKSHIRE initiative include:
• Up to £25,000 interest free loans for tennis clubs for facility projects with an incentive to receive the final 20% repayment converted to a grant

• £5,000 to £8,000 per year to a network of 10-12 Hub Clubs to develop and deliver coaching, playing and tournament programmes to talented junior players in each network. Hub Clubs will be located around Yorkshire, near to large population centres and have access to indoor courts.

• Offering clubs 50% cashback of their LTA registration fee if they have strong and effective policies and practices in place for safeguarding. Registration fees are currently priced at £110 per court so a 4 court club pays £440 pa and would receive £220 cash back. This scheme applies for up to 12 courts.

• Launching a £10pa Associate Membership category, aimed particularly at schools, as Yorkshire Tennis plans to significantly increase the number of clubs and other venues in full LTA membership. Associate Members will receive £100 of free coaching vouchers as a joining incentive and will have access to free advice and establish the worth of benefits of full membership for up to a 3 year period

John Crowther, Chairman of Yorkshire Tennis, said “This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for clubs in Yorkshire to update their facilities and engage with schools and their communities so we attract as many people into our sport. In addition a longer term output will be more Yorkshire
players playing at the top of the game”
