Bristol sports enthusiasts are being encouraged to join the Bristol Local Tennis League as part of the city’s designation as European City of Sport.
Local Tennis Leagues is a flexible and sociable league for women and men aged 18 and over. Played on public tennis courts around Bristol, the league is organised into groups of players of a similar standard who then arrange their own matches at a convenient time.
Entry into a round of Local Tennis Leagues is £15 and consists of five to seven matches over an eight week period. The winner of the group will receive a certificate, tennis prizes and, where possible, promotion to the group above.
Julie Jones, Lawn Tennis Association Participation Manager, said: “Local Tennis Leagues are a fantastic opportunity to play recreational, competitive tennis and to meet new people. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner, returning to the game after years out, or fancy yourself as the next Andy Murray or Jo Konta; the Bristol League is a great chance for people to play tennis more often.”
As European City of Sport, venues and community groups across Bristol are aiming to raise awareness and accessibility of sport in a pledge to get people more active.
There are ten primary public access venues across Bristol used for Local Tennis League matches including Canford Park, City Academy and Eastville Park.
The deadline for signing up to the next round of the Bristol League is Monday 8 May, with matches taking place between Thursday 11 May and Wednesday 5 July.

ABOUT THE LTA:
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is the National Governing Body for tennis in Great Britain, responsible for developing and promoting the sport, with a mission to get more people playing tennis more often. It does this under the consumer brand of British Tennis, by working with a broad range of partners and over 25,000 volunteers, to grow the game in communities, clubs and schools. The LTA represents the interests of over 350,000 British Tennis Members, men and women, girls and boys across the country, playing on more than 23,000 courts. The LTA runs and supports a network of 11,500 approved tournaments for players of all ages, the corner-stones of which are the premier grass court events leading up to Wimbledon, held in Nottingham, Birmingham, Queen’s Club-London and Eastbourne, all title sponsored by Aegon. The LTA works with many delivery partners to grow the sport across the country. One of these is its charitable entity, the Tennis Foundation, to provide a tennis provision for more than 20,000 schools, disadvantaged youth as well as promoting tennis as an inclusive sport for anyone with a disability.
